About MotoMail.co.uk
^ Top ^ MotoMail.co.uk was launched during the summer of 2004. Since then, demand for free ringtones has grown substantially and today this website is widely considered to be the biggest site in the world for mp3 ringtones. MotoMail began with about 10 ringtones back in '04. The current number of ringtones today stands at over 16,000!.
Why Moto Mail?... Well, the site was originally designed to provide free email services for Motorola phones, but the idea never really caught on. We then decided to use the site to let people access ringtones on their phone, but despite the 'Motorola' name, ringtones can be accessed from all types of phone!

Ringtones:
Remember those old Nokia phones from the 90's which rang with a simple monotone melody? Gone are those days... All ringing tones on MotoMail.co.uk are in the mp3 format, which means they are real music! Ringtones on this site are not fake 'soundalike' ringtones, but real ringtones by real artists. Check out the popular ringtones page, where you can preview the most popular ringtone in each category, and see for yourself!
Ringtones on this website are free, unlike most websites. This is because of the way they are downloaded. Normally, ringtones are sent to you by SMS or Multimedia Messages, which costs money. On MotoMail.co.uk, you can download ringtones directly from the world wide web to your phone, just like you would download a file off the internet to your computer at home. That dosn't cost money, so neither do the ringtones!
You can also download .3gp videos (The format for mobile phones) from this site, using the same method as above!

Users:
Registration is free and enables you to view ringtones, upload ringtones, post ringtone requests and talk in the forums! You can register here.
Phone compatibility
^ Top ^

Compatibility is very good. Mp3 ringtones work on the vast majority of phones sold today. To our knowledge, ringtones can also be downloaded on all carriers and network providers. However, you might want to check out the Known Incompatible Phones to see if your phone has been listed as incompatible. If you can play mp3 or music files on your phone, the chances are your phone will be compatible.

To check if the tones work on your phone, try it! The downloads are free, so see if your phone can handle them. Please note: you may be charged by your network provider to use the internet, see below.

Examples of compatible phones:

LG 'Chocolate'Motorola V3iNokia N72Sony Ericsson W810i
Costs
^ Top ^ The good news is, all the ringtones here are free to download. MotoMail does not charge you anything to access ringtones on this website.

If you have a cable which connects your computer to your phone, you can download any ringtone free of charge and transfer it to your phone, free. This is the recommended way of getting ringtones onto your phone. However, not everyone has a connecting cable and not everyone is at home when they want new ringtones.

You can also access ringtones directly from your phone, without a computer. However, you network provider (carrier) may charge you to access the internet on your phone. This is something which cannot be avoided if you're downloading ringtones using this method. Downloading a ringtone from your phone will probably cost very little, but obviously rates vary between companies. If you are concerned, contact your network provider, remember MotoMail doesn't charge you anything!

MotoMail cannot be held responsible for charges made by your network provider.

Troubleshooting & additional questions
^ Top ^ More help and other common problems can be found in the help forums. Common questions include:

I can't find my phone's browser or "go to url" feature - The browser might be listed under "wap" "gprs" "3G" or "mobile internet". Certain phones such as Nokias use "Go to address" or "find location" instead of "go to url". Read your phones manual, it should tell you all about accessing the internet.

When I enter the address on the item's page, i get problems - Firstly, check to make sure you have enough space for the ringtone on your phone, the download may be cancelled if there is not enough room on your phone. All of the ringtones on MotoMail are below 1MB, newer phones typically have a memory between 2MB and 512MB.

Error message: "404 page not found" - This is a simple error caused by you putting in the wrong address - mabey mis-spleing a word or missing-outa-hypen? You may also get this problem when you put CAPITALS InStEaD oF lower case. "50-Cent-Hate-It-Or-Love-It.MP3" is different to "50-cent-hate-it-or-love-it.mp3"

The download takes ages! - This may be because you are in a weak signal area, or because your phone has a slow connection to the internet. Unfortunately, this problem cannot be solved. Most downloads take in the region of 5 minutes, even with a half strength signal.

What does 'Bitrate' mean? - The Bitrate means the quality of the ringtone - how good it will sound. This is measured in Kbps, Kilo-Bytes-Per-Second. It's not that important and all you need to know is: the higher the bitrate the better the quality. Because of the lower quality of speakers on phones, you won't need a really good bitrate, so anything between 64kbps and 192kbps should do fine...
